That is the question.

*thinking thinky thoughts*

I've had an idea for a J2 fic sloshing around in my brain for a while now.  But I'm just too damn lazy busy to type it out.  It would definitely be a looong-ass fic, and I am sooo tempted to sign up for bigbang just so I can make myself write it.  But I don't want to put pressure on myself (like a specific time limit) either.  Ugh.  What should I do?

Just in case you're wondering, the fic would defnitely be Jensen/Jared, possibly NC-17 (not sure about that quite yet though), a little bit HarryPotterStarWarsLordoftheRingsHeroes-cracktasticness but NOT a crossover.  Yes, I did say cracktastic, but believe it or not, it's a quite serious storyline with lots of twists and turns....involving folks with special powers; folks like JDM, Chris Kane, Steve Carlson, Sandy McCoy, Danneel Harris, Alona Tal, CMM, and possibly Mike Rosenbaum and Tom Welling....along with a few other people you may recognize.

So what's the verdict?  Write it on my own time?  Sign up for bigbang? Don't write it if my heart's not in it? It sounds too weird; don't waste my time?

Just........help, plz.  -_-

I don't like competition, I like to do things for myself, 'cause I want to. So I guess if I were you I'd do it without the bigbang. But if I start reading your fic, I wanna make sure that you'll give us an end, 'cause I hate when writers do that : stop their fic, 'cause they don't feel like writing it again...
As for the subject of your fic, I read once a fic a bit like "heroes", 'cause the characters (jensen/jared/steve/chris/mike/tom) had powers and all. That was a really great fic. So if it's gonna be something like that, I'm in ;o))))

I'm leaning towards just writing it on my own time and then posting it chapter by chapter after it's completely finished and betaed. That way, it really wouldn't be a WIP, I'd just post like 2 chapters a week or something and then everyone will be happy....hopefully.

Yeah I like when writers do that. Write the whole and post chapter by chapter like twice a week. It allows the reader to not forget about the fic and really be into it for a few weeks.

I think you should totally do it! I'm doing Big Bang too (though I haven't officially signed up yet; 11 pages of sign ups is intimidating!) and your plot sounds really awesome. *crosses fingers and toes for Sophia Bush*

The good thing about Big Bang is that not only do you have a time line pushing you to work on it, but just posting it as part of the challenge will mean it'll actually be read. I've spoken to some people who read every single fic each year and that's always good.

If you want some support, I'd be more than happy to bug you about it cheerlead for you. Or even if you just want to talk to someone about it.

I would love to do BB, but I'm thinking that maybe for this fic, I'll do it on my own time and then maybe next year (if this fic turns out well enough and I'm willing to write another long fic) I'll sign up for bigbang. I just have a feeling that I'm not going to get this one finished in time.

I might take you up on the offer of bouncing ideas off of you though. I need a good sounding board, someone to let me know I'm not crazy, lol.

You definitely shouldn't stress about it if you feel like you won't get it done in time. That's not going to make it any better or you feel any better about it.

I am more than willing to be a sounding board. And who knows, sometimes the crazy ideas turn out to be the coolest ones.

If you don't write this, I will CRY!

As for the bigbang, I don't look at it so much as an obligation. To me it's more like a goal. "Can I get it done by then?" type thing. If you don't get it done, it's not a big deal, your name just gets taken off the list and you can try again next year. If you do get it done, you story gets pimped on the Bigbang, you get awesome art, and you get the satisfaction of knowing you did it. In short, if you think you have a long enough plot, totally go for it!

I'm pretty sure I have a long enough plot. This tale has been niggling in my brain for over a year and I can see certain scenes perfectly in my mind. I just need to fill in the gaps and get my lazy self to type it and I'd be good to go, lol. Maybe I'll think of a different story to enter in to BB next year.

Oooh, just start it and work on it in your own time? Your fans will be all the encouragement you need tp get it finished!

Ok, here's the deal...

I've been debating signing up for BB too, and the bigest thing that's stopping me is that I'm afraid I won't be able to work under the pressure of a deadline, but at the same time it's kind of exciting because it would be the first thing I ever signed up for...

What I'm trying to say is that if you want to sign up for it so that you'll have a reason to work on your fic, then I'll sign up too and we can like check on each other every week and keep each other on track!!

Think about it and just let me know!!!

*hugs and smooches*

After thinking more about this, I'm pretty sure I want to write this fic on my own time. Although a deadline might get my ass in gear, I don't want it to affect my writing and have the story seem rushed, just to get it done by a certain date. But I may need some folks to bounce some ideas off of...and maybe even a beta once I get the ball rolling. So if you're interested in helping me out that way, that would be great. :)

From: [identity profile] vampirebites13.livejournal.com

I've never been a beta (or had one truthfully) so I don't know how much help I'd be there, but any other way as in feedback or ideas is always fine by me.

*hugs and good luck*
